" I listened, motionless and still; And, as I mounted up the hill, The music in my heart I bore, Long after it was heard no more." William Wordsworth
Here is the latest news from the Lesley Young duo.
We started regular rehearsals in October, and I’m excited to announce that this week John and I began to work with a very talented mixer at a recording studio in Montreal. He’s mixing all the songs that we recorded in Edinburgh, Scotland 2013 to 2014. You can hear a preview scratch mix of an acoustic song we brought back from Scotland, it’s playing on Reverbnation. A new single will be released early next year, and an EP, and an album release will be coming up later.
The Tower of Song tribute presented in November by the Cohen family for late author, poet and songwriter Leonard Cohen was an amazing evening that I'm grateful that we to had the opportunity to attend. There were outstanding performances by several artists, in particular KD Lang, Adam Cohen and Patrick Watson. Many of us left teary-eyed. There are currently three unique Leonard Cohen murals painted on buildings in various locations around Montreal. Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal has begun a series of performances based on his songs, and MAC has been displaying an exhibition of art inspired by Leonard Cohen's music.
It’s surprising what you will find when you get into those old boxes you have lying around the basement. We found a bunch of performances on cassettes and ADAT tapes, including interviews. We’ll be transferring them into digital formats in the new year. Some of my old VHS tapes have already been organized and will be sent out for transfer this month. They include a live performance with my band Touchwood (Toronto, 1987), a Festival of Independent Dance performance choreographed to music that I was commissioned to write (Toronto, 1995), and two other shows videotaped at clubs in Toronto during the early 1990’s. I’ll be viewing the results of all the transfers, and if all goes well (cross your fingers), in the new year you will be seeing some interesting things being posted on this blog.
Wishing everyone Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
