On the first Sunday of every month during this Covid-19 lock-down, I'll be posting a special blog with original songs, the odd choice cover, a few of our musings about songwriting, new live music videos, live music podcasts, and/or some free downloads for my blog readers.
Sunday October 4th, 2020 is World Animal Day!
It seems appropriate to feature my Hippo and Tortoise Song. When I was inspired to write it, I'd read a news story about a a Hippo (Owen) and a Tortoise (Mzee) who were put together in a wildlife sanctuary in Mombasa after Owen was orphaned during a tsunami. Mzee a 130 year old tortoise became his constant companion. You can read the full story: https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=4754996 The story really seemed to hit home regarding the troubling issue of global climate change. I premiered it in New York when the Lesley Young Duo was a showcase act for the songwriter sessions at the Bitter End Club.
This is a short preview of an earlier mix done in an Edinburgh studio when we were living in Scotland. Hippo and Tortoise Song will be on our next release Shadows on the Moon.
Line up: Lesley Young - acoustic guitar/vocals and John McKay-Clements - acoustic lead guitar.
Genre: alternative, acoustic, duo.
" . . . instead of yards of charts and click track loops . . . it's a feel thang." Edinburgh sessions diary.
Coming up later: In celebration of our 20th Anniversary together (October 10th!) John and I are producing a special podcast together on the theme of musical duos!
It has been a difficult time for all of us. In particular music makers. There have been immense challenges this year. When John and I were just about to start renovations on the condo, we humorously decided to call our new home the bunker. Strangely, it turned out to be the case! I hope that you will enjoy our humble offerings and share these posts. Comments are greatly appreciated.
